A Work Delayed

Who else is itching to get out in the garden, but the weather just won't allow.  She's a tease, mother nature. We'll have some gorgeous spring weather, then bam, cold and snow.

Well, a couple of weeks ago we had a gorgeous (though chilly) day and my Dad decided he'd help my Hubs out by digging the holes for the posts for the truck shed Hubs wants to build. He also dug the holes for the chicken coop.  (You see, Hubs is on night shift so he is sleeping during the day and not able to get much done cause his days off have been rainy.)

This is the view from my perch on the tractor as Dad watches over the post hole digger.  The truck shed (meant to hold Hubs' two old trucks-a 1950 Dump Truck and a 1960 Pickup) has to be in a slightly different spot than originally intended because we kept running into a thick layer of rock a foot or two underground.

We dug thirteen holes that day. Four for the coop and nine for the 24'x26' truck shed.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do anything else since that day, thanks to the weather and general busy circumstances. We'll get there though. In the meantime.....

this is where we wait

Has the weather interrupted any of your projects?

Identity Crisis

One of my favorite things about living in Ky is the fact we get to fully experience all seasons. Ky winters are usually a little moody, not quite making up its mind what it wants to do. We often say, "If you don't like Ky weather, wait a week and you'll get something different". This is true for other states, I know. What is crazy is getting to experience winter and spring within HOURS of each other!

Tuesday was gorgeous. Sixty-one degrees, glorious sunshine. Really put me in the mood to landscape and work outside. Wednesday was still warm, but windy and rainy. Today....

28 degrees, with a wind chill of 16 and snow!  How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Journal 11.15.2012

I haven't stopped by here in a while mainly because there hasn't been much to report, homestead-wise, and we've been kinda busy with birthdays! Beauty just turned 9 and Buck turned 3.  I am revising my Christmas shopping list and gearing up to bake some pies for Thanksgiving.  I hope to have a list of this year's pantry additions ready to post next week.

This is November in Kentucky, which means it is gun season for deer hunters. Hubs scheduled a few days of vacation to enjoy his favorite past time. Here's a pic of the fruit of his early rising and cold-bearing labor:
